About our conference

In today’s fast-paced world, it’s easy to focus on physical health while neglecting mental health. However, both are equally important for overall well-being and peak performance. Developing skills to understand and reflect on our thoughts, feelings and behaviours alongside our physical development allows us to improve overall performance and success.

The main aim of our sports conference is to help athletes, coaches, and parents develop practical plans, gain an understanding of their mind and overall optimise the performance of themselves and others. Each of the workshops will provide insights into how those in sports at any level can attain skills in mental agility, resilience, and focus.

Over the last ten years, many elite athletes and world-class sports teams have adopted The Chimp Model to improve their performance. GB Taekwondo, England Football, British Cycling, Liverpool Football Club, Ronnie O’Sullivan, Sir Chris Hoy, and Victoria Pendleton have all shared how The Model has helped them to compete and succeed at the highest level.

This conference is aimed at athletes, coaches, and parents with an interest in applying the Chimp Model in sports. Whether you’re a seasoned athlete looking to take your game to the next level, a coach seeking to improve team performance, or a parent interested in supporting your child’s athletic journey, this conference is for you.

Our Aims

Practical Plans for Optimising Performance in Sport’ is hosted and developed by Chimp Management Mentors who specialise in optimising the psychological performance of elite athletes and sports teams. Our mentors will help you gain valuable insight into key areas that often hinder performance, such as anxiety, consistency, and overtraining syndrome. You will also learn practical techniques for overcoming these challenges and help to optimise your performance

Throughout the day the Chimp Management team will share valuable insights into the neuroscience of the mind and highlight practical skills to help you to:

  • Develop insight and awareness of the neuroscience of the mind.
  • Relate this understanding to practical applications to optimise the quality and success of training programmes.
  • Recognise anxieties around performance and develop skills in resilience.
  • Create practical plans to facilitate your learning and how this will benefit you.
  • Explore your commitment and how you can create a more confident approach to training.

Our Workshops

We will explore how to optimise the mind by simplifying the neuroscience behind it and refreshing the main concepts of the Chimp Model. Through this keynote, you will gain a deeper understanding of how the mind works and develop personal insight and skills for optimising performance. You’ll also learn practical strategies for applying the Chimp Model to your life and sport, allowing you to achieve your goals and reach your full potential.

Session aims include:

  • Learn about the neuroscience behind peak performance
  • Develop the skills and strategies to optimise the mind
  • Apply those skills and strategies to your life and sport

Overtraining syndrome is something most athletes and coaches are familiar with. However, the warning signs can be missed, misinterpreted or ignored, leading to short-term and longer-term chronic issues with training, performance, and physical and mental health for the athlete. This session will help you better understand what overtraining syndrome is, how and why it can occur, and explore the beliefs many athletes hold that can predispose someone to overtraining syndrome. You will also develop your personal, individualised plan to detect and manage over training syndrome.

Session aims include

  • A better understanding of overtraining syndrome and how and why it can occur.
  • Explore beliefs that many athletes hold that can predispose someone to overtraining syndrome.
  • Develop your personal plan to detect and manage overtraining syndrome.

The attitude and approach we take into training can drastically influence the outcomes we are looking to achieve. For a lot of athletes and coaches, this is a well-known principle. What perhaps isn’t as clear, is why this is the case, and how we can deliberately look to maintain a helpful and constructive approach.

Sessions aim to include:

  • Understand what approach you wish to have for training and the possible benefits of applying this approach.
  • Explore what could derail you from applying this approach.
  • Understand plans and processes you could apply to help increase your chances of committing to your chosen approach during training.

Anxiety and worry are normal features of our minds, but they can be unhelpful and affect not only athletes but coaches, support staff, and parents too. This session will help you develop a plan to better manage anxiety and worry to optimise your performance. You will gain insight into the underlying reasons that worry takes over in performance and look at the neuroscience of the stress reaction. By the end of the workshop, you will develop an individual emotional and practical plan for your unique setting.

Session aims include:

  • Managing anxiety to optimise our performance.
  • Understand the neuroscience of the stress reaction.
  • An individual emotional and practical plan for your unique

We are excited to showcase a Q&A session with the best-selling author of the Chimp Model, Professor Steve Peters. This a unique opportunity to gain insights directly from Steve himself; and ask any questions you may have about managing your mind and optimising your performance. Prof Peters has worked with some of the UK’s top athletes and Olympic gold medal winners and will provide a personal account of how his work has helped provide individuals with the mental agility to improve their performance and gain success.

The Chimp Model in Sport

As an athlete I was aware how powerful the mind can be in athletic performance.

Through developing a better understanding of myself, I learnt that I could choose how I responded to situations, which resulted in a much more positive approach to my training and racing.

Nothing comes close to this model.

It really does offer simple but effective ways on how to really improve your life

Ronnie O’Sullivan

Snooker Champion

The Chimp Model is a hugely powerful system for understanding your own & others’ minds.

The things I learned are invaluable to me as an athlete, but, in some ways more importantly, are not just limited to the sporting world and are applicable, useful & powerful in day-to-day living.
